Sean

This post is called Sean because he is the only person who I actually know that is allowed to read my blog and because he was very upset that he hadn't been named yet. So there you go, a whole blog post named after you. (For alert readers, Sean was the friend who whooped my ass at MSN games yesterday. The memory still hurts).

Today I went to work. Well, I say went to work as if it was a willing enterprise...and didn't involve me being quite literally dragged out of my house by my mother who is, completely coincidentally *cough*, my boss. She is the Vet at the VET SURGERY FROM HELL and I am the Kennel Hand. So, I basically clean...I clean cages, towels, dishes, every flat surface, some vertical surfaces (I spend hours scrubbing the walls in the surgery. I GOTS BIG GUNS!). It's...it's not as bad as I'm making it seem because I'm able to listen to my iPod while I do it. Nobody has to talk to me while I'm out the back cleaning and my mother has discovered that I am much more productive when I'm not lonely and/or motivated to hail people down to talk to them. I have pretend friends speaking to me on via the magical medium of podcasts.

I thought for this post I might make a list of all of the podcasts I listen to and why. Maybe you'll find something new to listen to which really interests you :)

PODCASTAS! (in alphabetical order)

Hamish and Andy

This is a very, very funny Australian duo. The show is actually a podcast of their daily radio show but obviously without the music. Hamish and Andy often prank celebrities, hold hilarious interviews with various celebrities and banter amongst themselves. It's never failed to make me laugh and is well worth a listen.

How-To Girl Video Podcast

There haven't been any new shows in this podcast for quite some time. That said though, the archives of this show are so interesting. This show takes an instructional format and has so many cute ideas for everything from hair and make-up to food for parties to gift ideas.

Imprint

This is a pretty popular Twilight podcast. It's done by the same people who produce MuggleCast and Smart Mouths. It's a very funny and informative podcast with Twilight theories, news in the Twilight fandom and interviews with people involved in the production of the Twilight books and movies.

Learn to Meditate + The Meditation Podcast + Meditation Station

These three podcasts have been all lumped together because they basically serve the same purpose. All three of them offer brilliant guided meditations and some even employ revolutionary sound technology that relaxes the mind and body. I'm one of those people that find it very hard to just sit there and empty my mind so it's really helpful in my meditation to have something to focus on and listen to.

Modern Manners Guy

As can probably be deduced by the title of this podcast, it offers advice on modern etiquette and manners. It's much better than the outdated etiquette books, dealing with new manners challenges like cell-phone use and internet etiquette. The shows are quite short, usually being between ten and fifteen minutes, and are quite entertaining as well.

MuggleCast

This is a very famous Harry Potter podcast produced by a group of fairly young men and women who have since branched out to make Imprint and Smart Mouths. This podcast is a fun way to learn about what's going on in the Harry Potter fandom, hear about movie news and (still) theorise about the books.

Multiple Choice With Susan Maushart

Multiple Choice with Susan Maushart is also a podcast from Australian radio. However, this is on the ABC station which means that it takes a more informative standpoint than commerical shows like The Hamish and Andy show. In this show, Susan speaks about a huge range of topics that, at their very base, deal with the different choices that people make.

My Thought Coach

This is fairly similar to the Meditation Podcasts discussed earlier, however, the main focus of this podcast is on affirmations. Affirmations have been shown to have significant effect on the state of the mind and therefore also the life of the participant. Subjects are incredibly varied and are sure to provide interesting meditation experiences.

Philosopher's Zone

The Philosopher's Zone is a podcast devoted to providing a modern voice for the philosophers of today and in the past. The show is a forum for philosopher's to speak about their recent works and discoveries in their field but also for experts who have studied the famous philosophers in the past to speak about their knowlege of life as we know it and what happens after.

Philosophy Bites

Philosophy Bites is similar to the Philosopher's Zone, but as is implied by the title, is much shorter. These podcasts are usually around fifteen years old and take a more interview-answer format. This then means that it is a little bit more interactive for the listener and seems a bit less like a philosophy lecture.

Relaxation Music

As I mentioned earlier, I have trouble meditating without anything to focus on and without any background noise. When I don't feel like having a guided meditation, I'll fire up this baby and meditate away. These short songs are also absolutely perfect if I want to fall asleep NOW. It is a rare occasion that I haven't fallen asleep before the end of the song when listening to these in bed.

Slate's Culture Gabfest

This is a hilarious and totally informative podcast about culture from highbrow to pop. The three hosts take a fresh standpoint on what's happening in culture today and what it's effects might be in the future. The podcast deals with everything from books to movies to magazines and movements. The three hosts are journalists for a brilliant magazine.

Slate's Political Gabfest

This podcast is also produced by Slate Magazine and also features three hosts. These three make a very good analysis of political events without sounding haughty or being hard to understand. They're also quite humourous and are very good at discussing all sides of issues.

Smart Mouths

This is the latest offering from the MuggleCast/Imprint crew. This is a very varied, and slightly more mature, podcast than their previous ones. It is almost similar to the Culture Gabfest, with similiar sorts of topics discussed. However, as previously mentioned, this humourous group are quite young and, as such, take a youthful view of the world.

Stephen Fry's PODGRAMS

Stephen Fry, what to say about Stephen Fry other than that he is amazing. These podgrams are rarer than a dodo but are so funny and beautifully produced when they do appear. He talks about a range of topics, whatever is on his mind really, but delivers it with typical Stephen poise and, of course, in his smexy voice.

Thinking Allowed

This is a British radio show and sort of takes a more sociological and anthropological approach to topics that might be discussed in philosophy or culture. It also utilises a range of historical topics but these are always equally as interesting. A range of experts are interviewed on this show about their topics of interest.

Vaguely Live Radio

This is a podcast from prominent youtubers Alex Day and Jimmy (...I so don't know his last name, oopsie). It's very funny featuring random and hilarious anecdotes from the duo who exchange witty(??) banter and have a great rapport.

YOGAmazing Video Podcast

This video podcast has half an hour yoga classes which are so perfect for someone who wants to do yoga but can't (or won't :P) go to an actual class. The difficulty of the classes varies but they are usually require about a moderate fitness level and can usually be modified for people of a lesser fitness.

You Look Nice Today

This is a totally random but completely hilarious podcast. I have no idea of the origins of it, as I started listening quite late, but it seems to be from three guys of middle age who are totally able to go off into their imaginations with hilarious results.

So, there you go. That's every single podcast that I listen to, bar none. I so have to end this post now (I've been typing like a speed demon) because there is only about five minutes before the end of today.

xoxo,
Megan

Guitar Hero Plays this Year: 31
